It was a hot, humid day. We were serving a small local church plant in Huehuete, by walking the village, praying for locals, handing out church fliers and ministering the Gospel to any who would listen. Despite its central location, the Church was struggling to establish a presence in the village. After spending nearly the whole day in the village, Andrew Creekpaum looked towards the village bridge where a group of 8 young men were sitting. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, Andrew approached them and began to minister to them. The men were seemingly disinterested in our presence, when Andrew, after noticing a baseball glove that one of the young men held firmly, said, “ Do you play baseball?” They group of young men brightened up, “Yes”! They exclaimed, “Ill tell you what, next week I can bring some baseball equipment and we can play a game of baseball, but before we play we want to minister and pray for you guys”.

The men agreed.

That whole week, we searched the village for baseball equipment to no avail, resulting in us making a trip to Managua the capital city, where we were fortunate to find what we needed. Nicole Prepared 20 sandwiches and brought juice along for the men to have a snack. Upon arrival to the baseball “Field”, we were amazed to see that 75 men had showed up, fully geared up and ready to defeat the pathetic Americans… we did not have enough sandwiches…

After playing a game, Andrew ministered the Gospel of Grace to every person present, we estimate about 100 people heard the Gospel that day due to the men bringing along their wives, girlfriends and children.

Each week, we returned to the field, we preached, played and prayed for two months to the men, the numbers declined - it seems that some were not interested in the Gospel message. the men that remained were eager to hear more each week.

one week, we had the thought, “Lets play baseball, then afterwards let’s walk with them to the church and we can start a mens discipleship program”. We did just that, that week, 45 men attended mens discipleship and once again the Gospel was preached, but this time every man present made a public confession of faith.

To date, the men are still attending weekly services and playing baseball - they even formed a church league and won the championship in 2022!
